Out to Lunch

Ladies Who Lunch? That tony set was among Consuelo Castiglioni's inspirations for Marni cruise. But instead of going prim, the designer worked an uptown-downtown mix with a dose of cartoony overstatement via trompe l'oeil effects, droopy drawers and wacky X-ray sunglasses. The result was a terrific lineup of chic, fun clothes that might even make a model smile, though obviously not this one.

  1. I want to say first- I love the tunic- I think it looks fabulously silky and the pattern is neat, however I do not think that it fits well with the supposed inspiration or as a part of a cruise collection. According to Consuelo Castiglioni, the inspiration was "Ladies who lunch" which means- slim, well-off, old-money, well-dressed women who meet for lunch socially, normally during the working week. Typically, the women involved are married and non-working. Normally the lunch is in a restaurant, perhaps in a department store during shopping. Sometimes there is the pretext of raising money for charity. I feel like if this type of women wore this exact outfit- it would no longer be the "ladies who lunch" it would be the "Lady at lunch"- none of her friends would want to sit with her.
